Terms of use

The short version

• IronStack is a lifting log. Your log lives on your phone and belongs to you.
• Coach is an AI. It can be wrong. You decide what goes on the bar.
• Lifting is risky. Train within your limits and check with a doctor when in doubt.
• Social is for the people you train with. Be decent. If you aren’t, you lose access.
• This short version is a summary. The full terms below are what count.

1. Who we are

IronStack is made by Mission Built (“Mission Built”, “we”, “us”), which is Mike Nichols, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

2. Agreeing to these terms

By downloading, opening or using IronStack, you agree to these terms and to the IronStack Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.

You got IronStack from Apple’s App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”, https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) also applies. The Standard EULA is your licence to the app. These terms add the rules for Coach, Social, training, purchases and everything else the Standard EULA doesn’t cover. If the two conflict on the licence itself, the Standard EULA wins. On everything else, these terms win.

3. Who can use IronStack

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live if that’s higher, to use IronStack, Coach and Social included.

IronStack isn’t made for or directed at anyone under 18.

If you use IronStack for an organisation, such as a gym or a team, you confirm you’re allowed to accept these terms for it.

4. Your licence to use the app

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use IronStack on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store’s Usage Rules allow. We keep all other rights.

IronStack is not open source. Unless the law lets you do it anyway, you may not:

• copy, modify, translate or make derivative works of the app;
• reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, or try to extract its source code;
• rent, lend, sell, sublicense or redistribute it;
• remove or change any copyright, trademark or other notice in it.

You may not do any of the following to the services behind the app (the Coach server, the Social server and anything else we run):

• access them other than through the app, or try to;
• scrape, load-test or probe them;
• get around App Attest, the Coach allowance, rate limits or any other protection;
• use them to build a competing product or to train an AI model.

5. Your data and your files

Your training log, plan, notes and settings are stored on your phone. They’re yours. We don’t claim any ownership of them.

You can export everything at any time, in the Mission Built Schema, a documented file format. You can also import files in that format, and from some other apps. An import is only as good as the file. Check what the preview shows before you bring it in.

Your phone holds the only full copy of your log. Keep backups (iCloud or computer backup, or regular exports). We can’t recover a log that was only on a phone that’s lost, wiped or broken.

The Privacy Policy says what leaves your phone, who handles it, how long it’s kept and how to delete it.

6. Features that talk to Apple

IronStack can read from and write to Apple Health, use Location, Speech (voice logging), Notifications, WeatherKit and Maps, and share a few settings with MealStack on the same phone through an App Group. Each is off until you allow it. You can turn each off in the app or in iOS Settings. Apple’s own terms and privacy policy cover Apple’s services.

7. Coach

Coach is an AI, not a person. Coach answers questions about your training and can write down a workout or program you send it as a photo, PDF or file. It uses Claude, a model made by Anthropic, reached through a server Mission Built runs on Cloudflare. Coach sends nothing until you ask it something, and you can turn it off in Settings at any time.

What Coach is not:

• Coach isn’t a coach, trainer, physiotherapist, doctor or any other professional. Nothing it says is medical advice or a professional assessment.
• Coach can be wrong. It can misread a photo, miscount sets, mistake an exercise or give a number that doesn’t suit you today. Check everything it gives you before you rely on it.
• You decide what goes on the bar. Coach won’t name a weight above a ceiling drawn from your own logged sets. That ceiling is a guardrail, not a promise that a weight is safe for you. How you feel, your form, your recovery, your equipment and anything you haven’t logged all matter more.
• Pain, injury, illness, pregnancy, medication or a medical condition? Ask a qualified professional, not Coach. Coach is built to point you there.
• Workouts Coach writes down from a photo or file are a transcription of what you sent. Check every exercise, set, rep and load before you train it.

Using Coach well:

• Only send Coach what you have the right to send. A program a coach wrote for you is fine to send for your own use. Other people’s private information isn’t.
• Don’t use Coach for anything Anthropic’s Usage Policy prohibits (https://www.anthropic.com/aup), or to try to make it produce harmful content.
• Coach runs on an allowance per device per month. We set the allowance and may change it. When it’s used up, Coach stops until the next month or until you buy more, if we offer that.
• We may change, limit, pause or end Coach at any time, for example if a provider changes its terms, costs change or we see abuse. If you’ve paid for Coach and we end it, §12 applies.

8. Training is risky. Your safety is on you.

Strength training can cause injury, including serious injury and, rarely, death. By using IronStack you accept that risk for yourself.

• See a doctor before you start or change a training program, especially if you have a heart, blood-pressure, joint or other medical condition, are pregnant, or haven’t trained in a while.
• Stop if you feel pain, dizziness, chest pain or shortness of breath, and get medical help.
• Use safe setups. Use safety arms, collars and spotters where they make sense, and gear you know how to use.
• Plate math, the rest clock, targets, e1RM estimates, badges and Insights are aids. Check the plates on the bar yourself. An estimate isn’t a test result.
• Voice logging and imports can mishear or misread. Check what was recorded.

IronStack is a logging tool. It’s not a medical device and doesn’t diagnose, treat or prevent anything.

9. Social

Social is optional. You can use IronStack fully without it.

Account. You sign in with Apple. You choose a public handle. You’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.

How it works. You invite people you train with. People who accept become your spotters. You can share a session card (the date, time, duration, lifts, highlights, badges and a place phrase or city) with your spotters, and they can give props. There are no comments and no direct messages. Only your spotters see your cards. You approve each card before it’s shared, and you can take it back at any time.

The rules. On Social, including in your handle, card titles and place phrases, don’t:

1. harass, bully, threaten or intimidate anyone;
2. post hate speech or slurs, or attack people for who they are;
3. post sexual content or anything that sexualises minors;
4. impersonate a person, a gym, a brand or Mission Built;
5. post someone else’s private information;
6. post spam, ads or scams, or use Social to sell things;
7. post anything illegal, or that encourages self-harm, eating disorders or dangerous training;
8. infringe someone’s copyright, trademark or other rights;
9. create accounts to evade a block or suspension, or file reports you know are false;
10. try to break, overload or get around the filters, rate limits or moderation.

Filtering. Handles, titles and place phrases go through a word filter before they’re accepted. Filters miss things. The rules still apply.

Reports and blocking. You can report a handle, a card title or a person, and block anyone, in Social. The person you report isn’t told who reported them.

Moderation. Reports are sorted by automated checks, including an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic) that reads the reported handle or card title and the report reason. A person at Mission Built reviews them before any lasting action is taken. We aim to look at every report within a day. We may hide a card, reset or release a handle, limit features, or suspend or remove an account, with or without notice, if we believe the rules or these terms were broken or someone is at risk. If you think we got it wrong, email [email protected] with your handle and we’ll look again.

Deleting your Social account. Social › Delete Social account deletes your handle, spotters, shared cards and props, and disconnects Sign in with Apple. It doesn’t touch your training log. Some moderation records, such as reports about you, may be kept for up to a year after the report is closed, to keep Social safe. The Privacy Policy has the details.

10. Your content and our licence to show it

“Your content” means your handle, the cards you share, the props you give and the reports you file.

You own your content. You give Mission Built a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, format and display your content only to run Social: to show your cards and props to your spotters, send notifications, and moderate. That licence ends when you take a card back or delete your Social account. The exceptions are copies we keep for moderation, legal reasons or security (as the Privacy Policy describes) and copies in short-lived backups until they expire.

We don’t use your content for advertising. We don’t sell it. We don’t use it to train AI models.

You promise you have the right to share what you share, and that it follows §9.

11. Beta, feedback and ideas

TestFlight builds are unfinished. They may crash, lose data, change or stop working. Export your log often while you test.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything. We’ll never publish your name with them without asking.

12. Price, purchases and subscriptions

Nothing in IronStack is for sale yet. This section says how purchases will work when something is.

• IronStack is free during the TestFlight beta. Coach runs on a monthly allowance per phone. The launch price isn’t set.
• Any paid feature (for example, a subscription or one-time purchase for Coach) is bought through Apple’s in-app purchase. Apple processes the payment. Apple’s terms cover billing, refunds and family sharing.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before it ends. You can manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings (Settings › your name › Subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
• Before you subscribe, the app shows the price, the period and what you get. If we offer a free trial, it says how long the trial lasts and what happens when it ends.
• Refunds are handled by Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com). We can’t issue them directly.
• Price changes follow Apple’s rules. You’ll be told in advance and, where required, asked to agree.
• Restore Purchases is in the app.
• If we end a paid feature before the period you paid for is over, we’ll ask Apple to refund the unused part or give you an equivalent feature.

13. Third-party services

IronStack relies on Apple (the App Store, Health, Sign in with Apple, notifications, WeatherKit, Maps), Anthropic (the Claude model behind Coach and report triage) and Cloudflare (hosting the Coach and Social servers). We don’t control them. If one changes or stops, a feature may change or stop too. You agree to follow any third-party terms that apply to how you use the app. For example, your wireless carrier’s terms apply when you use mobile data.

14. Ownership and trademarks

The app, its design, text, recordings, badges and code belong to Mission Built or its licensors. Open-source parts are under their own licences, listed in the app under Settings › Acknowledgements and on the acknowledgements page.

IronStack, MealStack, Mission Built, MISSION ▪ BUILT, the barbell mark, the oxblood-square mark and the app icons are trademarks of Mission Built (Mike Nichols). You may not use them without written permission, except to refer to the apps by name.

The Mission Built Schema, the file format, is documented so anything can read and write it. Writing a file in that format doesn’t give you rights to the marks above.

15. Changes to the app

We improve IronStack often and may add, change or remove features. We’ll try to keep your log readable and exportable through any change. We don’t promise that any feature, including Coach or Social, will always be available.

16. Ending these terms

You can stop at any time by deleting the app. Use Settings › Your data › Delete all IronStack data first if you want the server copies gone too.

We may suspend or end your access to Coach, Social or the app if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if continuing would put people, us or the service at risk. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll tell you why.

When these terms end, your licence ends. Sections 5 (your data), 8, 10 (for copies we’re allowed to keep), 14 and 17–22 survive.

17. No warranty

IronStack, Coach and Social are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, Mission Built disclaims all warranties, express or implied. That includes merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free or keep your data safe.

Some places don’t allow these exclusions. If you live in one, the exclusions apply only as far as the law allows, and you keep the rights your local law gives you.

18. Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

• Mission Built isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from IronStack, Coach, Social or these terms. This applies even if we were told such damage was possible.
• Mission Built’s total liability for all claims is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid us for IronStack in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) US $50.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit.

19. Your responsibility to us

If you break these terms or the law, or infringe someone’s rights through your content, and a claim is brought against Mission Built because of it, you agree to cover Mission Built’s reasonable losses and costs from that claim. This applies only as far as the law allows. It doesn’t apply to consumers where local law forbids it.

20. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction.

If you’re a consumer in the EU, the UK or another country whose law gives you the right to bring a claim at home, or to rely on its mandatory consumer protections, nothing here takes that away.

21. Apple

These terms are between you and Mission Built, not Apple. As far as these terms act as an end user licence agreement:

1. Apple isn’t a party. Mission Built, not Apple, is solely responsible for IronStack and its content.
2. Scope. The licence is limited to a non-transferable licence to use IronStack on Apple-branded products you own or control, as the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions allow. Other accounts associated with the purchaser may access it through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
3. Support. Mission Built alone provides maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide any.
4. Warranty. Mission Built is responsible for any product warranty that can’t be disclaimed by law. If IronStack fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for IronStack. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses from a failure to meet a warranty are Mission Built’s responsibility.
5. Product claims. Mission Built, not Apple, is responsible for any claims by you or a third party relating to IronStack or your use of it. This includes (a) product liability claims, (b) any claim that IronStack fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and (c) claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws, including in connection with HealthKit.
6. Intellectual property. If a third party claims that IronStack or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, Mission Built, not Apple, is solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
7. Legal compliance. You confirm that (a) you’re not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated by the US Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and (b) you’re not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
8. Contact. Questions, complaints or claims about IronStack go to Mission Built, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, [email protected].
9. Third-party terms. You must follow any applicable third-party terms when you use IronStack.
10. Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. When you accept them, Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

22. The rest

• Whole agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy and Apple’s Standard EULA are the whole agreement between you and us about IronStack.
• Severability. If a court finds any part unenforceable, the rest still applies.
• No waiver. If we don’t enforce something straight away, we can still enforce it later.
• Assignment. You can’t transfer these terms. We can transfer them to a successor, for example a company Mission Built forms, or a buyer of IronStack. We’ll tell you if that happens.
• Export. You’ll follow US export and sanctions laws when you use IronStack.

23. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we’ll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change matters, for example new fees or a change to how Social works, we’ll tell you in the app before it applies. If you keep using IronStack after that, you accept the new terms. If you don’t agree, stop using the app and delete your data.
